Various models of Buran were built during the project. They separate in 2 groups: tests models (unable to fly), and models intended for the orbital flights.
The tests models were intended to validate the technical solutions of the engineers in all the fields, mechanics (static and dynamic), electric, electronic, thermal and acoustic.
The flights models were built throughout the advance of the project, each one receiving modifications and improvements.
After the collapse of the USSR the Russia rented for a long period of time, to the Kazakhstan, the Baikonur's installations and the pieces useful for the space programs in progress. Indeed, when the Buran-Energia program was alted it seemed clear that the installations, tests shuttles and launchers became property of the Kazakhstan. But the reality is more complex:
